Overclocker Destroys Previous Record Using Core i7-3930K on MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)
If you remember just at the start of the year, an overclocker by the name of HiCookie managed to overclock Intel’s Core i7-3930K CPU to an impressive 5654.7 MHz frequency and along with that broke a number of world records on Super Pi 1M, Super Pi 32M and PiFast. Now, an overclocker by the name of Turn&Burn has brought to our attention his achievement which he apparently did just a few days later after the previous record was set.
As it turns out, this guy Turn&Burn managed to break that very record for the fastest CPU frequency recorded for Intel’s Core i7-3930K processor by achieving a 5831 MHz using an MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) motherboard.
Turn&Burn used two of the Core i7-3930K’s six available cores and set the bus speed to 119MHz and the multiplier to 49x which when compared to the previous record’s 57x is really impressive.
Another great deal about the feat is that unlike other overclocking attempts that would only normally go for one DIMM of RAM that usually is 1GB or 2GB in density, the system used by Turn&Burn had four DIMMS in it for a total of 16GB of RAM that was set to 952.1 MHz with a 1:12 FSB to DRAM ratio and 11-11-11-28 timings.
For the CPU-Z validation and some benchies using Super Pi and WPrime, you can head on and check out Turn&Burn’s original post here.
