Asus Adds WiMAX to its Eee Pad Transformer TF101

If you liked last year’s announced Eee Pad Transformer TF101 then you’ll definitely like the model that will launch this February as Asus decided to add a built-in WiMax feature to the tablet.

Still carrying the same name, the new model with the built-in WiMAX feature will enable up 40Mbps downlink and 15.4Mbps uplink connection speed. It will also allow up to six devices to connect and share the bandwidth.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 features a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen with 1280×800 pixels resolution. Unlike its bigger brother the Eee Pad Transformer Prime that is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3, the Transformer TF101 only runs on an Nvidia Tegra 2 chip. It will have 16GB of flash storage but it is still unclear whether other capacities will be available.

Aside from the newly added WiMAX feature, the TF101 also comes with IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Operating system of choice is Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb.

The tablet is scheduled to debut on February 25 in Japan for about ¥49,800 including tax (approximately US$639). It is still unknown though when or whether this particular WiMAX model will be available to the rest of the globe.
