AMD announces Athlon II X2 270u

Is power consumption important to you? It should be, because with the money spent on electricity bills you could get better components, gifts, or anything else you want.
This is why you should be more than pleased to know that AMD has just announced an ultra low power dual-core CPU, based on the C3 revision of the Regor core. It's called the Athlon II X2 270u, and you'd do well to remember than name, because it's probably going to be one of the best choices available for low-profile computers.
With a TDP of 25W, 2MB of cache, DDR3 1333 support and full AM3 compatibility, the Athlon II X2 270u tops the previous 25W model, the Athlon II X2 260u, which is clocked at 1.8Ghz. This is rated at 2.0Ghz, and the 200Mhz speed difference is notable.
Of course this doesn't come cheap, and even though there are many more CPUs out there more powerful than the X2 270u, none of them has a 25W TDP. Just think of the money you'll be saving if your computer runs all day long!
For comparison purpose, an Athlon II X2 260, rated at 3.2Ghz, costs $75, and the Athlon II X2 270u costs about double, but the difference from a 25W TDP to a 65W TDP is quite large.
AMD CPUs are certainly an excellent choice for buyers on a tight budget, and this CPU is not something buyers should overlook!
The other good news is that, due to its low power consumption, the Athlon II X2 270u requires a less powerful power supply. Any power supply that can provide 400 watts should be more than enough for a system equipped with this CPU, depending on the rest of the components installed. We're sure however that those who are getting this CPU are certainly not going to get some ultra powerful GPU that requires a lot of power!
